Firefighter Jobs App

Firefighter Jobs app

As I mentioned in my Firefighter Jobs post for July, I have currently created an app for you guys. I’m very excited about it and hope all of you guys like it as well.

I know I have been slacking on some of the posts for the blog but I believe you all will think it was all worth it. The app is currently 50% done as I have been testing out the beta version of the app. From what I’ve seen I know you guys will like it.

The app is an iPhone only (android will be coming later) app that will show you guys who is hiring for firefighters, EMT’s, Paramedics, and other jobs that are related to the EMS world. I was receiving a lot of positive response to my monthly firefighter jobs post that I decided to create (or outsource the development) an app dedicated to just showing those jobs.

I will try to keep you all updated with the development process as best as I can. It has been a lot of work but I don’t regret any of it.

Why I started the firefighter app:

I know how hard it can be to get a firefighter job. The stress, time, money, and just going through the constant routine of being told “Thank you for your time and interest but you have not been selected to continue the process”.

It sucks being told no over and over, even if taking the test was “just for practice”.

I talked with some of my academy buddies who decided to go different routes in their career and we remembered the times when we were taking tests every month with no success. Money just falling out of our pockets as we traveled from town to town and applying everywhere.

I was the only one of my friends who achieved a job as a full-time firefighter, but this talk we had still bothered me, even after I went back to my department.

I decided to start putting myself in front of aspiring firefighters and asking them in depth questions like:

What resource do you wish you had to help you get a job as a firefighter?

What’s your biggest complaint in the firefighter testing process?

How much would you pay for those resources to become available to you?

I got some really great answers and ideas after asking these questions. To be honest, I already had an idea in my head…     a blog, this blog. I started it and wrote some great materials in it. But it wasn’t helping others as much as I wanted so I had another idea…    an App.

After doing some research I realized what I needed to do and what my plan was. I started by going to freelancer.com and Upwork.com to hiring someone to put in a total of 500 job interest cards for 11 different states in the US.

I gave him 3 weeks to finish the job which he did. I paid him $150. I think I may have over paid him, but then I really didn’t know what I was doing. This whole process was all new to me and I never thought I would be trying to hire someone to do a job for me, even one of this size.

While my freelancer was finishing the job, I was writing answers to different questions I had myself about the app so I would be able to concentrate and get, on paper, an in-depth description of the app. I had the big picture in my head just didn’t have to details yet. It was my first app so I don’t know what I was doing…

Please stayed tuned for more updates about the app process in future post. To get updated on new post for the firefighter jobs app please Subscribe to my newsletter.
